A portable system for monitoring brain activity at home, an AI-powered solution that reduces the time needed to interpret Pap smear tests, and a platform offering personalized nutrition guidance were among the startups recognized at Demo Day, the event that marked the conclusion of the third edition of the LevelUP Health & Life Sciences Accelerator.
During the event, 11 health and life sciences startups presented their solutions to a jury composed of representatives from the healthcare, investment, and entrepreneurial sectors. The showcased innovations addressed a wide range of areas, including AI-assisted diagnostics, women's health, neurotechnology, medical software, patient monitoring, and personalized nutrition.
The Jury's Choice Grand Prize was awarded to Brain Health Labs, which is developing a portable EEG system for long-term brain activity monitoring. Second place went to CLARA, a startup using artificial intelligence to automate the interpretation of cervical cytology (Pap smear) tests, while third place was awarded to Bloomplate, a personalized nutrition platform that provides recommendations tailored to each user's goals and needs.
The Public's Choice Award was won by Symptive, a digital platform designed for women navigating perimenopause and menopause, offering symptom tracking and personalized recommendations.
Through LevelUP's partnership with Draper University, three startups — CLARA, Medical Pilot, and VR ExoSuit — received fast-track access to the evaluation process for the Hero Training Program in Silicon Valley, giving them the opportunity to compete for a scholarship and participate in the program. In addition, startups in the accelerator benefit from accelerated access to the evaluation process for funding opportunities offered through the regional investment fund managed by Fortech Ventures.
Alongside the pitch sessions, the event also featured a discussion on the challenges founders face when healthcare solutions move from development into real-world use by clinicians and patients. Topics included clinical validation, the adoption of new technologies within healthcare systems, and the difference between a promising prototype and a product capable of delivering meaningful impact.
"At this third edition, we are pleased to see that, alongside the local community we have built and the framework through which experts challenge and strengthen founders' solutions, we are also helping bring these innovations closer to patients. We are already seeing startups from the first two editions successfully entering the market, and we expect to see the same from this year's cohort," said Anca Roman, Head of the INNO Platform and Investment Attraction Department, North-West Regional Development Agency.
The LevelUP Health & Life Sciences Accelerator is organized by INNO, the entrepreneurship, innovation, and investment attraction department of the North-West Regional Development Agency. Now in its third edition, LevelUP is Romania's first accelerator dedicated exclusively to health and life sciences startups and continues to grow, attracting teams from both Romania and Central and Eastern Europe.
