On June 25–26, 2025, in Cluj-Napoca, we organized GREENMATCH, the first international matchmaking event within the IN4SFS project, funded by the Horizon Europe program. The event aimed to create real connections between international investors, local investors, and green startups from Romania, Greece, and Turkey—facilitating access to capital and cross-border collaboration for sustainable solutions. Day 1: At Techsylvania, the Heart of the Tech Community The event kicked off in an informal setting at Techsylvania, one of the largest technology and innovation conferences in Central and Eastern Europe. Here, investors involved in the IN4SFS program arranged meetings with local startup founders and other investors. We were delighted to see the matchmaking area bustling throughout the day; meetings were constantly scheduled, and the space remained lively and dynamic from start to finish. At Techsylvania, we also had the chance to explore Startup Alley, a dedicated space for early-stage startups. Besides networking, we attended several conferences and presentations by international speakers who covered current topics in technology, business, AI, sustainability, and leadership. It was a day full of meeting new people, discussing potential collaborations, and exchanging ideas. Day 2: Workshops, Panels, and Pitching The second day moved to a hybrid format at the headquarters of ADR Nord-Vest in Cluj-Napoca, where discussions continued with an intensive agenda of workshops, panels, and pitching sessions. The day began with a workshop on Startup Valuation led by Florin M. Pop, followed by an interactive Q&A session with investors, green tech experts, and entrepreneurs including Tomasz Slusarz, Hayrie Shan, Dr. Claas Helmke, Prof. Eicke Weber, Ionuț Baboș, and Prof. Anis Jouini. A dedicated investors’ panel gave both local and international investors the opportunity to share their experiences and offer advice to participants. The panel included Tom Korn, Mo Zidan, Melisa Itmec, Ștefan Koritar, Philip Choban, Marius Ion, and Tomasz Slusarz. In the afternoon, nine green startups (five from Romania, two from Greece, and two from Turkey) presented their solutions in a pitching session before investors, receiving valuable feedback and opening doors for future collaboration. The IN4SFS project, funded by Horizon Europe, aims to support the scaling of startups from emerging innovation ecosystems in Turkey, Greece, and Romania, with a strong focus on green and sustainable technologies. Bringing together business accelerators, investor networks, and innovation organizations from across Europe, the project addresses a key regional challenge: limited access to cross-border investment. By enhancing startups’ investment readiness and facilitating access to international capital and networks, IN4SFS promotes growth and competitiveness for early-stage companies, while encouraging inclusivity, especially for women-led ventures. GREENMATCH was the first matchmaking event under the project, with similar initiatives planned for Turkey, Greece, and Spain. The project is ongoing, and we are currently accepting applications for new cohorts of the GreenLeap incubation & acceleration program dedicated to green startups in Romania. Through GreenLeap and its partners, startups gain access to an extended support network, international expertise, and investors from innovative countries such as Belgium, France, and Denmark. The future is sustainable. Let’s build it together.
